Electronic Arts' Need for Speed racing franchise has been on a downward spiral in the past few years, and even EA admits it. They're now taking steps to recapture the franchise's glory days, and among their gambits is tapping Burnout devs Criterion Games for a new Need for Speed title set for release in 2010.

EA Games label president Frank Gibeau recently revealed that the Criterion-developed Need for Speed will be released next year. Gibeau noted that the game has been under development now for some time, which should hopefully remedy the rash of mediocre entries -- the blame for which Gibeau places squarely on EA for failing to put adequate resources behind the franchise.

Shortly after their acquisition of Playfish, Electronic Arts is set to streamline operations, sacking 1,500 employees from different levels, and canning 12 unannounced projects. Speaking in an investor conference call, chief financial officer John Brown gave out the details.

Out of the 1,500 employees to get the axe, 900 are positions in game development, 500 in publishing, and 100 for corporate level. Letting them go will save the company US$ 100 million annually. Laying off employees and closing facilities is never pleasant," said EA CEO John Riccitiello. "We have a lot of compassion for those impacted but these cuts are essential for transforming our company."

It was not clear if teams will remain intact, but Black Box, Redwood Shores, Tiburon and Mythic are all believed to be affected by the layoffs. "We think the cuts we have made are very, very aggressive. "We've cut teams, we've cut corporate, we've cut overhead, we've cut publishing but not to the point of hampering ourselves," Riccitiello said.

Apart from letting a lot of people go, EA was also forced to cancel 12 of its unannounced projects. These projects are the smaller, less profitable games. "So it is really, in a way, if you could array our title slate up knowing what we did about what we would have otherwise brought to market, we cut the bottom third of it."

A solo dungeon crawl that puts you in control of a (quite literally) one man army, Vagrant Story's weapons creation system, deeply intricate plot, and Ashley Riot's sheer badassitude has cemented it as one of those games that you can rightly call a true PSOne classic. Soon, you'll be able to download it through the EU PlayStation Store. Hooray!

Word first came 'round saying that the game was coming out this week thanks to a date printed in a Square Enix newsletter, but they've subsequently claimed that the date was wrong. It's still coming, just not this week. There's also no word on a US PS Store release. Here's hoping an announcement for that comes soon.

It seems IO Interactive is keeping quite busy these days. They already got two games in the pipeline -- Hitman 5 and Kane & Lynch 2 -- and now reports are suggesting that there's another new IO title on the way.

According to CVG, IO is also working on a unique multiplatform title that's "unlike anything else." The gaming news site's source also indicated that this new game can be summed up by imagining "all the violence of Hitman and Kane & Lynch but not scripted."

Until 5.00M33-4, DarK_AleX used Sony's 3.71OFW MS Driver to enhance MS speed at its custom firmware. Then he developed his own one.

Although his patch doesn't work at 5.50GEN-B2, the 3.71 driver works fine

Don't tested it much, but Soul Calibur CSO is loading 3 seconds faster.

Important: To find the folder \kd of flash0, make your Operational System shows hidden files!

3- Access \kd\ folder at your pc

4- Backup these files:

pspbtjnf.bin
pspbtknf.bin
pspbtlnf.bin

And then put the new ones from the file you have downloaded.

5- Exit recovery menu and reboot your PSP after that

1- Attach the USB Cable to your PSP and, Turn it on holding R. Go to Advanced -> Toggle USB (flash0)

2- Access \kd\ folder at your pc

3- Backup these files:

FATMS MOD for 5.00 (also works at 5.50GEN-B2 as stated)

5- Put fatmsmod.prx on your MS root and FATMS371 folder at \PSP\GAME\

6- Disable plugins, CXMB etc

7- Run FATMS Mod app, hit X and wait it finishes.

8- If you want reverse the process, just flash back your backup files @ \kd\ folder

After the announcement made just last week about the arrival of Arc System's BlazBlue on the PSP that sent all you fanboys abuzzing, we now have some more new details as well as screenshots for your first look in the game.

Apart from the 12 characters, including their Unlimited forms and the Ad Hoc support, there will also be an original mode called "Legion Mode". This one will have you fight your enemies one by one. Your reward for beating them in the fight: their alliance. Yep, just show them you're boss, and they'll pledge their allegiance to you.
